SHAW - A branch of the Scottish clan, MACINTOSH; arrived during the Plantation of Ulster.

SHERIDAN - Originally an eccesiastical family from County Longford.

SHEVLIN - Possibly derives from sibhal, swift. A Mayo sept now also found in Donegal.

SWEENEY - Mac Suibbne, pleasant; Originally a gallowglass family. In the 14th century, they developed into three powerful septs in Tirconnell.

TIGUE - (O'Taidhg) A common Mayo name often associated with the givven name, Thady.

TIMLIN (TIMBLON) - Diminutive of Thomas. This was a family of Cambro-Normans who formed a sept in the Irish fashion in County Mayo.

TOOLE - O'Tuathail, means mighty people in Irish. One of the great Leinster septs that managed to hold off the Normans for over five hundred years. The Mayo branch is related to the seafaring O'Malley's.

TULLY - A celebrated medical family who tended to both the O'REILLY and O'CONNOR families.

WALTON - An English name present in Ireland since the 13th century but not strongly identified with any particular area.

WARD - Nearly all of the Irish WARDS are Mac an Bhaird, or sons of the bard. The name is typically found in Galway and Donegal.
